The extraordinary medieval silver chalice
The extraordinary medieval silver chalice that we see here is a one-of-a-kind chalice, made respecting the tastes and desires of its client.
The shape of the chalice is typical medieval, characterized by simple lines. The decoration, however, is rich in engravings inspired by Cosmatesque motifs, engravings present both on the cup and on the base. These motifs with soft and geometric lines frame the personalized symbols present on the chalice: the dove of the Holy Spirit, created on the cup, where we also find the "woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet" described in the Apocalypse.
On the base, however, a Byzantine-style cross is engraved.
